A different kind of instant oatmeal
Since that post, I've tweaked the recipe with more accessible products (those available locally) and according to my own preference. I just use products that we have in our fridge, and oatmeal really isn't a problem because the husband eats it all the time -- for breakfast, after working out, or as a midnight snack! When I was making this tweaked version of overnight oats last night, I decided to post it here for reference because I'm always tweaking it as my tastes change. My latest one involves the slightest of tweaks, but it still made a difference.
- 1/2 cup oatmeal (I use Quaker Oats Instant Original Oatmeal.)
- a pinch of cinnamon (I have McCormick Ground Cinnamon from our coffee cart.)
- 1/2 cup of plain or vanilla yogurt (That is also equivalent to 1 125g cup of Nestle Creamy Yogurt.)
- 1 teaspoon honey (I like Cem's Raw Wild Honey or orange honey.)
- 2/3 cup low fat milk (Cowhead for me.)
Instructions
*Make this the night before you are to eat it because it softens the oats (remember that we're not cooking or heating it).
- Mix all the ingredients together in a jar. A jam jar will do nicely. (Having trouble getting the sticky gunk off jam jars? I have an easy-peasy solution.)
- Stick the jar into the refrigerator overnight.
- Take it out of the fridge in the morning and enjoy!
Step-by-step
Measure out the milk. I usually just put the ingredients together in my measuring cup.
Add the oats.
Mix in the yogurt.
Add a teaspoon of honey -- or more if you like it really sweet.
Pour the mixture into the jar and dust it on top with cinnamon.
Put it in the fridge so it can set overnight, and that's it.
Now that's easy, wasn't it? Next time I'm adding bananas or berries or maybe some peach slices. Brown sugar also tastes great for those who like a bit of a sugar kick in the morning. I will most likely update again soon because I love this so much.
Do you eat oats for breakfast? What's your favorite breakfast food?
Oooooh! Great baon idea!
ReplyDeleteYeah, you just grab it from the fridge in the morning. :)
