We woke up early to have breakfast before work at our new favorite 24-hour all-day breakfast place, Kanto. It's a hole-in-the-wall kind of restaurant that serves gourmet food -- what a juxtaposition, right? It's a new neighborhood discovery for us, and I'll be posting more about it on Food Tales of a Kapitolyo Resident soon. It was one of the very few places open so early in the morning in our area that's not Jollibee or McDonald's, so it was the obvious choice for us.

Instead of birthday cake, I chose Deep Fried Oreos! We didn't know what to expect, so we were so surprised when they turned out amazing. The dish wasn't oily at all, the fried batter was really soft, and the cookies inside were quite chewy. All that, plus the chocolate sauce drizzled on top, add up to a scrumptious dessert.

Kanto is always packed! Our first time there was late in the evening and we couldn't believe then how many people were having late dinners like us. The morning of my birthday, it was even more crowded and we figured it was probably the nightshift crowd coming in for end-of-day meals.
It was a wonderful morning with the husband! I couldn't ask for anything better than great food and great company.
In the evening, we couldn't decide where to go for dinner because all the nearby restaurants were filled to the rafters for some reason or was already closing because it was so late. We sat on a bench in the Capitol Commons park for a while just trying to figure out what we wanted to do. It's really nice there at night.
We decided to check out Mozu in Ortigas, because it was open late and in a secluded street (I think it's in Amethyst St.), so it was likely to have a few tables available. We were right. We had our old favorites -- pork binagoongan and lechon with laing.

We also shared a Jamocha Jello, which was like coffee jelly with chocolate and some sort of alcohol in it.

It wasn't the kind of night we planned on, but it turned out okay. It was a nice, simple, and quiet birthday.
Looks like you had a lovely day! Omg, naghang ako sa longganisa. Nakakagutom! Haha!
ReplyDeleteKanto was such an awesome Kapitolyo find! I love it.And Mozu is always a nice place to go to whenever we need to get out of the neighborhood.
