Beauty Barrage: Nicole by OPI Justin Bieber Collection in Make U Smile + OPI Dating a Royal [Throwback Thursday]

Since Throwback Thursday has taken over the Internet, I decided to do it for the blog. I've tried a bunch of products way before I made this blog, so I thought it would be fun to take a look back on the ones I really liked. Some of them  may not be available anymore, but I still have and use some the products, and these blast from the pasts can serve as inspiration for colors or looks to try in the future. The trick would be to find alternatives/dupes for them.

Let's start off this back to the future thing with nail polish. Here's a look at the Make U Smile shade from Nicole by OPI's Justin Bieber One Less Lonely Girl collection and OPI's Dating a Royal, which is still available at the OPI website.

Out of all the nail polish collections in the world, I never thought I would like something from Justin Bieber. After all, how could a guy (a 17-year-old one at the time the collection came out in 2011) have anything to do with a nail polish collection? Well, with a dose of OPI expertise, mainly the talents of Nicole by OPI's Executive VP and Artistic Director Suzi Weiss-Fischmann who designed the collection with Justin Bieber's songs and fans in mind, the One Less Lonely Girl collection was a huge hit. Also, surprise surprise, I really liked it! Plus the line was done for charity (Pencils of Promise), so props to Justin Bieber for that.

I got to try three shades from the collection, so let's focus on Make U Smile for the moment and then I'll talk about the others in future Throwback Thursdays. Make U Smile is a clear lacquer dusted with two kinds of silver glitter -- large hexagon-shaped ones and fine dots. Glitter like this can be hard to apply, but I somehow managed and my nails looked like they got a sprinkling of pixie dust!

Then I tried it over Dating a Royal -- one of my favorite lacquers -- and it became something else. My nails looked like the night sky! I liked how it was subtly sparkly without going overboard.

This has become one of my favorite polish combinations ever. It sure looks like a match made in heaven, doesn't it? What's your favorite lacquer combo?

  1. It looks great with blue! I also have nail envy right now. I can never grow my nails that long. I always end up with scratches everywhere.

    1. Haha I used to be able to maintain my nail length years ago, but now I have the same problem. I grow them and then cut them as soon as I hurt myself. :P

  2. I love sparkly nails too but hate how it's so difficult to remove. :D

    1. Yeah that's part of it, unfortunately. The Face Shop's strawberry nail polish remover makes it so much easier though!
