Makeup Madness: Up Close - Maybellline Bold Matte Lipstick in Mat2

I've been really good at trying to use up my makeup lately. I've built up quite the collection of lipsticks over time and I'm hoping that I get to make good use of it all before it's time to toss them out. I still buy the occasional one when a shade catches my attention though, and one of my most recent buys is the Maybelline Bold Matte Lipstick in Mat2.

Can you tell I already used it before taking a pic? Yeah I usually can't resist trying lipstick on immedietely after getting it.

I actually got it back in May, but I have never gotten around to writing about it for some reason. I guess it's because it falls right in the middle of my lipstick collection. I don't hate it yet I don't love it either. 

Now see, I love strong colors, especially bold matte lipsticks, which is why this line appealed to me. This lipstick is bold and matte -- what's not to like? I definitely love the bold color. I learned online that Mat2 is supposedly called Sugar Pink (the packaging on the tube I got doesn't say so), and it's exactly as its name suggests. It's loud and bright, but still a pretty pinkish coral. 

As for the matte part of it, I love it too. It's not as dense as the usual matte lipsticks in the market, and it feels pretty light on the lips. It doesn't dry up my already parched lips either. It's matte in the way that it's not shiny on your lips. The color and the texture together make for an attractive lipstick. 

The thing I don't like about it is the formula's consistency. It's smooth, it just glides on, and it actually feels moisturizing, but if you have dry lips like I do (which lip scrub only makes passable but not perfect), you'll find that it doesn't offer much coverage. It's kind of thin in that sense, and doesn't do much to mask your lips' imperfections. 

 I like that this loud lipstick is still very much understated though. It has become the lipstick I wear on those carefree days when I don't feel like wearing much makeup and I just want some color on my face. Maybe I'll try another shade next time and see how it goes.
