The thing is, I keep buying them but never use them up. I just have too many, that's all. I am obsessed with finding the perfect lip balm for me -- one that absorbs quickly, keeps my lips smooth and moisturized, has great flavor, and doesn't feel thick or sticky. I've found many that I really liked over the years -- The Body Shop's flavored balms, Maybelline Baby Lips, Burt's Bees, and EOS are top contenders -- but I'm still obsessed with lip balms. It's just my thing and I don't think I'll ever stop trying out new ones.
The latest lip balm I tried is Smith's Rose & Mandarin Lip Balm from my mini weekend haul several days ago. Smith's Rosebud Salve has been on my must-try list for ages, as it is a cult favorite, especially among beauty editors. I didn't know that it was available here though until I found it on the counter at PCX. I was so thrilled, I went off with it as soon as I saw it.
Smith's Rose & Mandarin Lip Balm is the brand's newest flavor. I chose it because hey, it's orange-flavored, and I adore anything rose-flavored as well. I considered getting the original one first, but this won out.
This balm is meant to soothe dryness and calm and heal irritation. It's labeled as a lip balm, but it can be used for other dry bits as well, such as hands and cuticles. It's made for dry skin, chapped lips, sunburn, and even minor burns. Petrolatum, cotton seed oil, and orange spice all natural blend/epic orange tout le melande natural are listed as ingredients, along with a "trade secret perfume premix" that sounds pretty mysterious. It is cruelty-free though and gluten-free.
I was concerned about the fact that it's in a tin. I love how balms in tins look, but it's not very sanitary, and it's fussy too. I usually end up having to look for tissues to wipe my fingers with after applying. That's not a problem with this balm though. Since it absorbs quickly and isn't gooey at all, I just use whatever's left on my fingers on my cuticles so I can moisturize them at the same time as my lips.
This balm feels wonderful on my pucker. I just have to wait a few seconds for it to absorb and my lips instantly feel a lot softer and smoother. It keeps my lips hydrated for hours and feels very comfortable.
The Swatch
Rose & Mandarin has a very light, almost transparent peachy color. It looks pretty yummy, and in the tin it reminds me of jelly.
It goes on clear, with just a very subtle, hardly noticeable hint of color. It makes lips shiny and can look like clear gloss when it's freshly applied, but it mostly appears invisible. [Note: Please excuse my Lion King mane. It's out of control these days, heh.]
My Thoughts
I love this balm! I'm really regretting never ordering this online before, but I'm glad it's now readily available in PCX. Application is a breeze, and it keeps my lips (and dry skin) super soft, smooth, and supple. It's very tasty too -- like rose with a hint of citrus. It reminds me of bubblegum and I have to fight the temptation to lick it off my lips. It's definitely pricier than regular lip balms, but it works like charm, seriously. I'm already planning on trying the other flavors in the near future, especially Original and Mocha Rose.
p.s. Here's close-up shot of my lips after using the balm. They don't look as good as that normally!
